Fitzwilliam Golf Society - Report 2015

Fitzwilliam Golf Society - 2015 Matches

2015  was the most successful year in the Society’s five years' history.

The society triumphed in all four matches against Oxbridge alumni golf societies. We played at some fine courses around the South East and enjoyed good weather and excellent company.

The Fitzwilliam Open was held at Cambridge Meridian Golf Club on the same day as the Sports Alumni Dinner. There were 27 entrants, playing individually. The winner and Fitzwilliam Champion for a second time was Bob Barltrop with 41 points, narrowly beating Graham May with 40 points. Jon Prichard was third with 39 points. The Croft Baker Trophy and other prizes were presented in college in the evening by The Master.

The Tour this year was to Kent organised by our Captain, Mike Hamment. After an opening day round at Faversham Golf Club, the highlight was 27 holes at Princes Course at Deal. This is an excellent and testing links course, especially in a stiff breeze. Our last day was at Walmer and Kingsdown GC, a rather hillier course with excellent views over the Channel to France. Mike kept us entertained with a variety of competitions which confused several participants. An enjoyable time was had by all with attendance averaging 12 per day.

A total of 70 Fitz alumni have now taken part in at least one of our matches. The 2016 programme is now available. All Fitzwilliam alumni /ae and members of college are very welcome to join us. Please get in contact with the secretary.
