Fitz Open 2017

Mike Sellers became the 2017 Fitzwilliam Champion Golfer with a very creditable 38 points at Royal Worlington on Saturday 8 September.

This was the seventh annual Fitz Open. 29 golfers took part and enjoyed the iconic setting of the Cambridge University golf course which is known as "the best nine hole course in England". Some heavy downpours (including hail) affected scoring as did the wicked slopes on some of the greens.

Peter Bennett with 37 points claimed second place with Richard Newport on 36 points in third place. All the scores are listed below.

The other prizes were as follows:-

Nearest the Pin (5th /14th) - Alan Wood

Nearest the Pin in 2 (3rd/ 12th) - John Uwins

Longest Drive (8th / 17th) - Clive Makin

Four golfers made their debut at a Fitz Golf Society event bringing the total who have played in an at least one event to about 80. The golfers then moved on to college for the Fitz Sports Alumni Dinner where the main speaker was Eddie Butler who also played in the Open.  The main prizes were presented at pre-Dinner Drinks by the Master, Nicky Padfield.

Mike Sellers success continued into the evening when he also won the "Heads and Tails" competition, receiving a Fitz teddy bear.
