Informal Day at Harpenden Common 16 July 2020
Fitz Golf is back after Lockdown!
It’s great to report that the Fitz Golf season is at long last underway – with a very informal golf afternoon for 8 of us at Harpenden Common on Tuesday 16th July. Matt Hignell is the current Vice Captain at Harpenden Common and he had booked our 2 groups of 4 in to play.
We enjoyed a bite to eat and drink before playing and a drink afterwards in the Clubhouse.
The Club staff were very friendly welcoming and had gone to a lot of trouble to make us feel safe in the Clubhouse.
The golf course was generally in good condition – and the greens were excellent.
The Common is a nice place to play – with some interesting golf holes, without being ridiculously difficult. A fun time was had by all out on the course – and we had a Better Ball competition between the 2 groups (with 2 Better Balls to count ex the 4 players in each team).
The result was a very narrow win for Matt’s team (also including John Uwins, Mike Hall and Ian Hall) against my team (also including Colin Dunkerley, Bob Barltrop and debutant, Andrew Pocock) – 79 against 78 Team Stableford points! And we allowed our kind host to win the Nearest the Pin on the lovely 18th Par 3!
