Fitz Local – Bristol and Bath Chapter – Stockwood Vale, 5 May 2024

Richard Newport and Norman Bell travelled the short distance from the Bath area to join host Pete Thomas and new Bristol resident, Colin Dunkerley for the first Fitz Local of 2024. The venue was Stockwood Vale, a scenic course which features some steep and challenging holes particularly where the course crosses and recrosses a valley.

Richard revealed that he had been a regular visitor to Stockwood Vale, both for golf and Speed Awareness Courses!

The draw put together Richard and Norman, both Cumberwell Park members against Pete and Colin who formed the Bristol team. The early holes saw very steady golf from the Cumberwell Park pair with Colin and Pete scrambling to stay level, employing chips and putts occasionally bordering on the outrageous to stay level at the turn.

The Bristol team almost gained the ascendency on the back nine but steady and determined play by Richard particularly, clawed back control until the Cumberwell Park team narrowly went one up on the 17th green. A half with the final putt of the game on the 18th saw them victorious. Neither side was ever more than a hole ahead at any stage in a very close game. The threatened rain thankfully held off for a very pleasant and enjoyable afternoon all round

Plans were made in the bar for another match in the Summer. Any other local (or not so local) Fitz golfer would be welcome to join us.
